One Local Summer Challenge - Week 11
I had a craving for pasta last night so I decided to make it my OLS meal. Since so many tomatoes are coming into harvest in the garden I decided to make some sauce. I had 2 celebrities and 10 sugar snacks from the garden, which I added 4 huge maters from the farmer's market I got Wednesday afternoon. I boiled these (which I forgot to skin them!) along with some tomato paste I got from the store (not local) - this made it a little saucier. I added Italian seasoning, salt, and little chopped red onion that I had from the market too. I had two sausages from Old Style Sausage in Louisville here, which I baked and then sort of ground, well I chopped the heck out of it and added it to the sauce. I also fried up some mushrooms I got from Rahkra Mushrooms out of Alamosa, CO. Added all that to the sauce and it was pretty chunky and super yummy. On the side I bought a little baguette from Sunflower, it was Udi's which is a Denver company. The pasta came from Pappardelle's out of Denver, it was organic whole wheat. They said they try to use as many local ingredients as possible, so I considered it local. They sell it at the Louisville and Boulder Farmer's Markets, which is so convenient, however extremely expensive. Mix all that together and we had a meal that was yum-o!
